| Tammy challenge ends |
PATTAYA Thailand, February 09, 2008
Thai hopes to see Tamarine Tanasugarn making the semifinals of the US$170,000 Pattaya Women's Open 2008 ended with a 6-2, 6-3 quarterfinal defeat at the hands of the Polish top seed Agnieszka Radwanska at the Dusit Resort Hotel, Pattaya, Thailand yesterday.
Tamarine found herself down quickly 0-5 in the opener against the Polish world No.21. She held for 5-1, and then managed to break when Radwanska served for the set. Radwanska broke again in the next game to take the set 6-2. The local prodigy had chances in the second set by breaking for a 2-1 lead, but the Thai No.1 could not capitalise on her opportunities and Radwanska managed to break back for 2-2. Tamarine fought off two break points before eventually holding for 3-3 with her fifth game point. But it was Radwanska who played consistent and forced the Thai to make the mistakes at the end.
I started slow again today. Her game is kind of hard for me to adjust my game to because she hit slow, fast, slow, fast and she got every ball back and I needed to play great tennis and be patient and keep the ball in play. She played very good and pressured me to play very solid, and I was not in my groove. She pressured me to play good shots and I was watching her rather than watching my balls. said Tammy, who will make the top 100 by next week.
The second set was much better because I got adjusted to the way she was playing. It was hard though because I got one break and then missed everything. But she played well and played smart and didn't give me any opportunities. added Tamarine who teamed up with Andreea Ehritt-Vanc of Romania to reach the doubles semifinals after defeating Chinese pair of Han Xinyun and Xu Yi-Fan 7-5, 7-5 .............More
