Thailand twin brothers Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana(world doubles ranked 67th and 71st) made a winning start on their first match of the year by scoring a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Russian pair of Mikhaail Youzhny and Alexandre Kudryavtsev, to advance to the quarterfinals of the US$411,000 Chennai Open at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai, India on Wednesday.

USA clinches fifth Hopman Cup Title

The United States won the 20th Hyundai Hopman Cup for the fifth time at the Burswood Dome, Perth, Australia after the singles rubbers had been split, the USA won the deciding mixed doubles against Serbia duo Jelena Jankovic and Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Djokovic defeated 26-year-old Mardy Fish with a tense two hours and 33 minutes singles battle, 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(4) after Serbia's world No.3 Jelena Jankovic had to give a walk-over to Serena Williams due to upper leg strain. The first-time of Serena Williams and Mardy Fish clinched the victory with a mixed doubles win, 7-6(4), 6-2.

Ratiwatana brothers Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana(world doubles ranked 67th and 71st) maintained their winning run, scoring a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 ( Match tie-break ) win over pair of Croatia's Marin Cilic and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan, to reach their first ATP final of this year in the US$411,000 Chennai Open at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai, India on Saturday.

Twin brothers Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana(world doubles ranked 67th and 71st) defeated Cyprus's Marcos Baghdatis and Marc Gicquel of France 6-4, 7-5 in a match lasting one hour final clash, to secure their first ATP title of 2008 in the US$411,000 Chennai Open at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai, India on Sunday.
The Thai pair winner of last year's ATP Bangkok served four aces and won two of the 3 break points they held, whereas Baghdatis and Gicquel had the nine aces and failed to convert their only one break point opportunity. It was Ratiwatana twins' second ATP doubles title after capturing their maiden title in Bangkok last year....

Thailand number 1 Danai Udomchoke progressed to Men's singles qualifying second round of Australian Open 2008 at Melbourne Park Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia earlier today.
Ranked 153 in the world Danai, who made Grand Slam third-round debut in the Australian Open last year, defeated Japan's Takao Suzuki in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, levelling their head-to-head record at 2-5 with the 31-year-old from Sapporo. The Thai 26-year-old, who reached career-best at 77th in January 2007, will next meet France's 34-year-old Anthony Dupuis for a spot to the qualifying final round.......... More

Thailand's Danai Udomchoke and Tamarine Tanasugarn moved a step closer to qualify for the main draw when they reached the final qualifying round after defeating their foreign rivals in the qualifying second round of the Australian Open 2008 at Melbourne Park Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia earlier today.
Danai, ATP world No.153 and seeded No.28th in the qualifying tournament, moved past France's 34-year-old Anthony Dupuis in three-set battle 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The Thai 26-year-old who made Australian Open third round debut in 2007, next play USA's Rajeev Ram(ATP-233), for a spot to the main draw.

In the women's side, sixth-seeded Tamarind Tanasugarn joined Danai into the final round with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over former world No.4 and wildcard entrant Jelena Dokic of Australia in less than an hour second round clash. Thailand's young junior Nicha Lertpitaksinchai(ITF-152) moved a step closer to her first Grade 3 ITF Junior title when she overcame India's Rishika Sunkara in straight sets to reach the girl's singles final of the Indian ITF Junior (Grade 3) Tournament at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Center in India earlier today.
Top seed Nicha, who finished last year at No.168th on the ITF rankings, moved past No.12 seeds Anastasiya Prenko of Turkmenistan in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals before defeating Indian sixteenth-seeded Rishika Sunkara 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. The Thai 16-year-old world No.152 sets up the title clash with Russian second seed Anna Rapoport, a 6-2, 6-4 winner over fifth-seeded Tanvi Shah of India.
Unfortunate, No.14 seeds Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul(ITF-215) did not get past the quarterfinals, losing to fifth-seeded Tanvi Shah of India in straight sets 6-2, 6-0..

Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn(WTA-117) earned her spot in the main draw of the Australian Open 2008 but Danai Udomchoke(ATP-153) crashed out after the final qualifying matches were finished at Melbourne Park Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia earlier today.
Sixth-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn defeated the 18-year-old Chinese rising star Shuai Zhang(WTA-149) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and 9 minutes, to gain her spot in the main draw. The Thai 30-year-old was particularly impressive, keeping her errors to a minimum, with 39 compared to Zhang's 49. Especially in the final set, Tammy hit 12 winners, compared to Zhang's 3.
Tammy, who extend her 12th Australian Open main draw appearance streak since 1997, will take on Austrian No.19 seeds Sybille Bammer in the first round.
In the men's side, Danai went down 6-7(1), 7-5, 6-2 against the USA 23-year-old world No.233 Rajeev Ram, after seeing leads in the second set slip away. The Thai rallied from 0 - 4 down and saved two set points at 2 - 5 before winning the first set 7-6(1). He seemed to be on track as he opened up a 4-2 lead, but the USA broke back and took the second set 7-5. Ram, who is 1 - 0 lifetime against the Thai 26-year-old, clawed his way back once again, winning the final set 6-2

Thailand rising stars Nicha Lertpitaksinchai(ITF-152) had a successful campaign as she defeated Russian second-seeded Anna Rapoport in straight sets, to capture her first-career ITF Grade 3 Junior title at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Center in India earlier today.
Top seed Nicha, who won five rounds without dropping a set, defeating Russian second-seeded Anna Rapoport 6-2, 6-3 in the final contest.
It was Nicha's first-career G3 title after capturing the first one in G4 Junior at Bandung, Indonesia in June 2006. In addition, the Thai 16-year-old from Bangkok, led Thailand team to win maiden title at the 2007 Junior Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Qualifying and finished the fourth place in the World Group Final last year.
Nicha awarded 60 computor ranking points for this week G3 champion which will improve her ranking of 115 by next week............ More

Tamarine Tanasugarn's challenge in the Australian Open women's singles ended on Monday with a 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-2 defeat at the hand of No.19 seed Sybille Bammer of Austria in the first round of the Australian Open 2008 tennis tournament at Melbourne Park Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia earlier today.
Currently world No.117 Tamarine, who came from the qualifying tournament, took the first set 7-6(6) and was leading 2-0 with a service break in the second set but she struggled to hold her serves. The Austrian tennis mum fought back to win the other two sets 6-4, 6-2.

Fourth-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(ITF-15) and Kanyapat Narattana(ITF-94) continued their winning way to progress to the quarter-finals after the third round matches were finished on day four in the Optus Nottinghill International Tennis Tournament, an ITF junior grade 1 at the Nottinghill Pinewood Tennis Club in Melbourne, Australia earlier today.
Noppawan, 16-year-old world No.15th, fought back from one set deficit to defeat France's Kristina Mladenovic(ITF-86) 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. The Chiangmai teenager sets up the quarterfinal clash with the Nedtherland's ninth-seeded Arantxa Rus(ITF-34), a winner over China's Yi-Miao Zhou.
Unseeded Kanyapat Narattana is the other Thai hope, advancing to the last eight with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Marija Mirkovic of Australia. Three Thais ( two girls and one boy ) progressed to the second round of Australian Open Junior Championship after the first round singles competitions were finished on the openning day at Melbourne Park Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia earlier today.
The 16-year-old world No.148 Khunpak Issara made her Grand Slam debut by reaching the second round after defeating Italy's Lara Meccico(ITF-131) in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-4. The Bangkok teenager, who came from the qualifying tournament, will take on Romanian No.10 seed Simona Halep(ITF-24) for a place to the third round. Seventh-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn played a solid game as she outplayed South Africa's Bianca Swanepoel(ITF-77) 6-3, 6-1. The Chinagmai 16-year-old world No.16 next play the second round against a local favorite Brittany Sheed of Australia, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Alexa Guarachi of USA. Unfortunate two other Thai girls did not get past the first round. Kanyapat Narattana, world No.85 from Bangkok, squandered a 5-2 lead in the final sets before losing 6-3, 3-6, 9-7 to Australia's Alison Bai(ITF-112) in two hours and 22 minutes first round clash. Sophia Mulsap(ITF-74) went down to Israeli world No.109 Chen Astrugo 6-4, 7-5.

Thailand top ranked junior Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Kittiphong Wachiramanowong stormed to the third round of the Australian Open Junior Championship earlier today at Melbourne Park Tennis Center in Melbourne, Australia.
Seventh-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn survived a real scare against Aussie teenager Brittany Sheed, to make her third round debut on Junior Grand Slam, with a three-set victory. The Chinagmai 16-year-old world No.14 rallied from a 1-6, 1-5 down and fought off three match points before defeating the Aussie world No.293rd 1-6, 7-6(1), 7-5 in two hours and 16 minutes second round clash. Noppawan will have a tougher challenge in the next round as she takes on Aussie rising star Jessica Moore who recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over Taiwan's Kai-Chen Chang.
In the boy's side, No.13 seeds Kittiphong Wachiramanowong sustained his good work to get past Alex Sanders of Australia in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Thailand's Danai Udomchoke progressed to the men's singles quarterfinal after defeating Denmark's Frederik Nielsen in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-4 in the second round of the US50,000 China TCL Challenger in Guangzhou, China earlier today.
The 26-year-old fifth-seeded Danai, whose ranking drop from No.153 to 216 following his failure to make the Australian Open main draw, will take on qualifier Philipp Oswald of Austria, for a spot to the semi-finals.
In doubles quarterfinals, the Thai-American pair of Danai Udomchoke and Phillip King upset Aussie duo and second-seeded Chris Guccione and Robert Smeets in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Host Thailand showed good form in their opening two singles rubbers as the Thai team beat Hong Kong 3 - 0 in day one round-robin series in their Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1 Qualifying at the LTAT National Tennis Center in Nonthaburi earlier today.
Nudnida Luangnam, 20-year-old world No.336 from Sukhothai, gave Thailand 1-0 lead after outlasting Hong Kong's teenager Zi-Jun Yang in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. Thai No.1 Tamarine Tanasugarn(WTA-108) was strong in her 6-3, 6-1 win over Hong Kong's rising star Zhang Ling(WTA-412) in the second singles. Fourth-seeded Thailand, which is in group B with second seeds Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, and Hong Kong, sealed the victory when Napaporn Tongsalee and Suchanan Viratprasert posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Hong Kong pair of Po Kuem Lam and Zhang Ling in the doubles rubber.
Round-robin: eight teams divided into two pools of four. The two pool winners will play-off with the winning team advancing to the World Group II Play-offs in April 2008.
