Pichittra
wins in ITF Grade 3Junior singles title
Fridday, February 13, 2004
CHANDIGARH,
FEB. 13. The no. fourth-seeded Pichittra Thongdach stunned the first
seed Hsuan Hwang of of Chinese Taipe 6-3,6-1 in the finals of the
ITF Grade `III' junior tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here
on Friday.
It
was the same old story, as top-seeded I-Hsuan Hwang of Chinese Taipei
and fourth-seeded Pichittra Thongdach of Thailand made their third
successive final.
Unlike
the last two finals in Kolkata and Delhi, when the talented girl
from Nakonsrithammarach,
Pichittra
Thongdach of Thailand had allowed the quality of her game to dip
against the Taipei lass, the Thai girl played consistently well,
smacking winners all over the court, with considerable determination
to boot, in cruising home this time.
It was a double crown for Pichittra as well, as she partnered Yanina
Wickmayer of Belgium to pocket the doubles title, beating Yana Nemerovski
of Israel and Jung-Yoon Shin of Korea 6-3, 6-2.

Pichittra
upset in ITF Junior singles finals
Saturday, February 7, 2004
NEW
DELHI, FEB. 7. The no. seven-seeded Pichittra Thongdach was stunned
by the third seed Hsuan Hwang of of Chinese Taipe in the finals
in the Adidas ITF grade 2 junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex
on Saturday.
The
girls' final was equally lively. The way the talented girl from
Nakonsrithammarach,
Pichittra
Thongdach of Thailand started the contest, it looked as if she would
blow I-Hsuan Hwang off the court. It was with such punch that the
no. seven-seeded Thai girl smacked winners in the first part of
the match, on either flank. However, the Taipei girl knew what to
do, as she had beaten the Thai in the final last week in Kolkata.
Hwang
turned the match around with a break in the seventh game of the
second set, and then broke once more in the fifth game of the decider
to pocket the title with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
