Top seed Varatchaya Wongteanchai of Thailand advanced to the third round of the
6th Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup 2005, a ITF Junior Tennis Group 3 at Sarawak Lawn Tennis Centre in Sarawak, Malaysia earlier today.
The Thai 16-year-old talented girl from Chiang-rai defeated Shiho Otake of Japan in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the singles second round. The top seed faces 15th seed Wen-Ling Wang of Chinese Taipei in the third round. Two other Thai girls Porntip and Sophia Mulsap did not join Varatchaya's success. Porntip went down 5-7, 3-6 to Mary Ann Liu of Australia while Sophia was defeated by sixth-seeded Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 3-6, 1-6.
In boy's singles second round, Peerakit Siributwong lost 2-6, 2-6 to 16th seed Kyle Joshua Dandan of Philippines........ More

Two time 2005 single champion (March's New Delhi and November's Bangkok) Pattrayu Chumpetch of Thailand booked his place into the final when he knocked out top seed Ronak Manuja of India in three sets battle in Boy's singles semifinals of the ITF Asian 14 & Under Series at R.K.Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi, India on Thursday.
The Thai 14-year-old, a Nonthaburi native, who is seeded third in the singles draw, rallied from a set down to beat top seed Ronak Manuja of India 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Pattaryu next meet sixth-seeded another Indian player Sudanwa Sitaram in the single final today......... More

Top seed Danai Udomchoke of Thailand assured hisself of a silver after ripping third-seeded Eric Taino of the Philippines in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-4 in the men's singles semifinals of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games at the
Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, Manila, Philippines earlier today.
The Thai 24-year-old, currently ranked 124 in the world, who missed the men's team event and arrived in the country just in time for a singles' draw, defeated Minh Quan Do of Vietnam 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. The two-time men's single gold medalists in 2001 Kuala Lumpur and 2003 Hanoi, will battle for a gold medal against second-seeded Cecil Mamiit of the Philippines who recorded 7-6(2), 7-6(4) victory over fourth-seeded Indonesia's Prima Simpatiaji. " It was not an easy match as I lost to him(Taino) two times in the past. But I'm confident with my game over the past two weeks. The crowd behaved well here probably because they quite know me well after I have won a couple Challenger events in Philippines. It will be a tough final match against Mamiit as I lost in straight set in the last meeting. " said Danai who fought back from a 2-5 down in the first set to beat Taino 7-6(5), 6-4.
In women's single, top seed Suchanun Viratprasert, a gold medalist in 2003 Hanoi, could not defend her 2003 Hanoi title after losing to fourth-seeded Romana Tedjakusuma of Indonesia in three sets battle 3-6, 6-3, 1-6 in the women's singles semifinals. later in the afternoon third-seeded Napaporn Tongsalee went down 2-6, 6-2, 2-6 to second seed Wynne Prakusya of Indonesia. Pattrayu clinches Asian Junior Under 14 title

Third-seeded Pattrayu Chumpetch of Thailand captured Boy's singles title in the ITF Asian 14 & Under Series at R.K.Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi, India on Friday.
After dumping Indian top seed, Ronak Manuja, in the semifinals, the Thai 14-year-old talented boy from Nonthaburi defeated sixth-seeded Sudanwa Sitaram of India in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 in the boy's singles final to win the singles title.
This is Pattrayu's third ITF Asian 14 & Under title in this year. His first title came at New Delhi, India in March and won the second at Bangkok, Thailand in November. The Thai will play ITF Junior group 3 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next week....... More

Mamiit defeats Danai for gold

It was another sad day for Thai tennis as top seed Danai Udomchoke of Thailand failed to defend his gold medal when he was defeated by second-seeded Cecil Mamiit of the Philippines in the men's singles final of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games at the
Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, Manila, Philippines earlier today.
The Thai 24-year-old, currently ranked 124 in the world, who holds a 1 - 2 head to head record against the Filipino-American, fought back from 3-6, 1-3 down to level the match at one set-all. But Mamiit broke Danai's service in the third game of the decisive set and clinched the endurance test, prevaillg 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to win the gold medal. " All credit to Mamiit, he played very well. I was playing my left groin injury and felt a bit tired after playing six weeks in a row and I have to apologise for Thai fans that I could not win the gold. " said Danai who called the trainer to see his left thigh at a 3 - 4 down in the decisive set.
Twins brother Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana are Thailand's only hope for the gold when they will play the men's doubles final today........ More

Fourteen-year-old Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand advanced to the final qualifying round of the
Runhill Malaysian International Junior Championships 2005, a ITF Junior Tennis Group 3 at Kuala Lumpur National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia earlier today.
Noppawan, a Chiangmai native who turns 14 last month, defeated Tiara Sulaiman of Malaysia 6-1, 6-3 before dumping second-seed Abigail Oliver of South Africa in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in row two. The Thai next play Australia's fifth-seeded Lucy Dougherty for a spot to the main draw.

Runhill Malaysian International Junior Championships 2005, a ITF Junior Tennis Group 3 at Kuala Lumpur National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia earlier today.
The Thai 17-year-old Porntip rallied from a set down to defeat qualifier Shiho Otake of Japan 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-2 while Sophia, Porntip's sister, came back from a first set deficit before winning 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-3 over local favorite Jawariah Noordin of Malaysia. Top seed Varatchaya Wongteanchai did not join Porntip's success, losing 3-6, 4-6 to Lucia Batta of Hungary in girl's singles first round.
