Thailand defeats Sri Lanka 3 - 0 in Junior Davis Cup

The Thais got off to a fine start in the Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone qualifying today with a 3 - 0 victory over Sri Lanka at the Manila Polo Club in Manila, Philippines earlier today.
Kittipong Wachiramanowong opened up with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ravindrakumar Kohulan in the first single. Peerakiat Siriluethaiwattana put Thailand 2 - 0 lead with three set battle 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 win over Rukmal Cooray. The Thais, which is in group 4, seeded third behind Australia and Japan, completed the sweep when Kittipong and Peerakiat posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Cooray and Talagala in the doubles.
All 17 teams were devided into five groups. Each group will play in a single round robin with the top team in each group and the top three teams based on the quotient system advancing into the quarterfinals. The eight teams will play in a single round and the top four will advance in the World Group to be held in Barcelona, Spain in September........ More

World No. 1473 and wildcard entrant Weerapat Doakmaiklee of Thailand continued his impressive form to reach the quarterfinals of the $US10,000 TAT Phuket Open 2005 ITF Men's Future 1 when he defeated Ravi-Shankar Rathanjali of India who is ranked of 818, in three set battle 6-7(4), 6-1, 1-0 in the single second round at Phuket Tennis Center in Phuket, Thailand earlier today. The Thai junior No. 1 losing the first set 6-7(4) but fought back to take the second 6-1 and he won the match when his rival got cramp at both legs in the early of the third set. Weerapat now plays a lucky losser Patrick Schmolzer of Austria who recorded 6-3, 6-1 win over Patrick Khobloch of Germany........ More

World No. 801 and former junior No. 19 Pichittra Thongdach of Thailand stormed into the second round of the $US10,000 ITF Women's circuit, defeating eighth seed Naoko Horikawa of Japan in straight set 7-5, 6-1 in Tarakan, Indonesia earlier today. Pichittra sets up second round clash against her countrywomen Varanya Vijuksanaboon who recorded 6-3, 6-4 win over qualifier Dian Mayasari of Indonesia. Two other Thai girls who also joined Pichittra into second round are 4th seed Nudnida Luangnam and Orawan Lamangthong........More

The Thais boys progressed into the quarterfinals ( knock-out stage ) of the Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania qualifying Zone with a 3 - 0 victory over Malaysia at the Manila Polo Club in Manila, Philippines earlier today.
The Thais, who put up a good show by defeating Sri Lanka in yesterday matches, is the winner of group 2 after beating Malaysia 3 - 0 in today matches. Kittipong Wachiramanowong defeated Zhia Hwa Chong 6-0, 6-0 in the first single. Peerakiat Siriluethaiwattana sweep past Kwang Xin Mak Pee 6-0, 6-2 in the second single and pair of Kittipong and Peerapach beated Chong and Said 6-2, 6-2 in the doubles.
Australia, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Japan and Thailand are the winner of their respective groups and India as well as China progressed by virtue of being the two best second placed teams at the end of group engagements.
Thailand, seeded third, will take on China tomorrow in the first round of the knock-out stage of the eight teams and the top four will advance in the World Group to be held in Barcelona, Spain in September........ More
