survives in Singha Tennis Classic |

Second seed Sonchat
Ratiwatana was in trouble against unseed Thaintawi
Pomjumrat who put up a valiant fight and took the
contest into the decider in the Singha Tennis Classic 2005
(Leg 2), a local tournament at Piyarom Tennis Sports Club
earlier today.
The Thai double specialist Sonchat took the first set 6-3.
Thaintawi fought back to win the second 6-3. After winning
the second set, Thaintawi appeared to run out of gas. Sonchat
continued his dominance and clinched the endurance test before
winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
In women's single, top seed Napaporn
Tongsalee moved into the quarterfinals with 6-2,
6-0 victory over Khanita
Sritawan. Second seed Orawan
Lamangthong, 4th seed Daowadueng
Phonkan, 5th seed Porntip
Mulsap, 6th seed Nungnadda
Wannasuk and 7th seed Kamonthip
Saovana joined Napaporn into the quarterfinals.......

Tongsalee and second seed Sonchat
Ratiwatana advanced to the semifinals of the
Singha Tennis Classic 2005 (Leg 2), a local tournament at
Piyarom Tennis Sports Club earlier today.
The Thai 26-year-old Napaporn who is ranked 302th in the world,
swept past 17-year-old Porntip
Mulsap in straight set 6-2, 6-1 and will play
semifinals against the young junior rising star Nungnadda
Wannasuk who recorded 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sasirin
Borwornchokchai. Second seed Orawan
Lamangthong and 4th seed Daowadueng
Phonkan are the quarterfinals winner and will
battle for a spot in the finals.
In men's single quarterfinals, second seed
Sonchat
Ratiwatana defeated 8th seed Pichaya
Luevanichkit 6-1,6-1. Sixth seed Ekkarin
Pisuth-Arnonth advanced to the semifinals when top
seed Sanchai
Ratiwatana retired early in the first set due

No. 51 and unseed Paradorn
Srichaphan of Thailand delivered an upset, defeating
sixth
seed Nicolay Davydenko of Russia
in the men's singles second round of the US Open Grand Slam
at USTA
National Tennis Center in Flushing Measows, New York
on Friday.
The Thai superstar who fired nine aces and converted five
of 17 break point opportunities to beat Nicolay
Davydenko
in three set battle 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 in 2 hours, 21 minutes.
Paradorn will battle for a spot to the fourth round against
unseed Davide Sanguinetti of Italy who recorded 3-6, 6-1,
6-2, 6-4 victory over Spain's Carlos Moya.

Tongsalee booked their place into the finals
of the Singha Tennis Classic 2005 (Leg 2), a local tournament
at Piyarom Tennis Sports Club earlier today.
Sonchat reached the finals with 6-1, 6-3 victory over Veekit
Sinthu-Urai and will play the finals against Bhee
Witoonpanich who recorded 6-4, 6-4 win over sixth
seed Ekkarin Pisuth-Arnonth.
In women's single, top seed Napaporn overpowered
Nungnadda in staright set 6-3, 6-4 while 4th seed Daowadueng
Phonkan defeated second seed Orawan

at Piyarom Tennis Sports Club earlier today.
Thailand's double specialist Sonchat
Ratiwatana defeated Bhee
Witoonpanich in straight set 6-3, 6-4 in the
final to capture the men's single title.
In women's single final, it was a one-sided
women's final match as top seed Napaporn
Tongsalee lifted her single title with 6-0, 6-2
victory over 4th seed Daowadueng
Phonkan in 50 minutes.

Srichaphan of Thailand crashed out of the US
Open Grand Slam, losing his third round match to Italian
Davide Sanguinetti at USTA
National Tennis Center in Flushing Measows, New York
on Sunday.
The Thai 26-year-old who had been mired in a recent slump
that has been his ranking fall outside the top-50 after peaking
at the No. 9 in May 2003, fired 12 aces but made 76 unforced
errors against the Italian. The match went to the decisive
set, before the Thai went down 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 6-7(5)
in 4 hours, 15 minutes.

Thongdach of Thailand bowed out of the $US10,000
GS Yuasa Open, losing her first round match in Kyoto, Japan
earlier today.
It was her second week losing in the first round of $US10,000
ITF women challenger. An illness has kept her on the sideline
since $US10,000 Indore ITF challenger in India in May. The
Thai 18-year-old Pichittra who still could not find her rhythm,
went down to her double partner Lei Huang of China in straight

advances in Asian Championships 2005 |

World No. 136 and top seed Danai
Udomchoke of Thailand stormed into the quarterfinals
round of the $US100,000 Asian Championships 2005 at Tashkent
Tennis Center, Uzbekistan earlier today.
The Thai No. 2 who enjoyed a bye in the first round, eased
past wild card Uzakov Vaja Uzakov of Uzbekistan in straight
set 6-3, 6-4. Danai next faces Alexey Kedriouk of Kazakhstan
who defeated 6th seed Rohan Bopanna of India, for a place
in the semifinals.
" I watched him ( Kedriouk
) play, and he is playing a lot more aggressive. I
need to get my return so that I can attack, otherwise I may
be forced to defend. Well, everyone is tough in this field.
" said Danai who reached his career-best at
128th after winning $US50,000 Granby in Canada in August.
The Asian Championships men's and women's singles winners
will get wildcards for 2006 Australian Open plus $US7,200

on Tuesday.
The Thai 22-year-old from Bangkok who has reached semifinals
in $US75,000 in Washington DC in August, defeated local favorite
Shuai Zhang of China in staright set 6-4, 6-1 in the first
round. Suchanun sets up second round clash against Leticia
Sobral of Brazil who is ranked 302th in the world, on Thursday.......

Thailand No. 2 Danai
Udomchoke moved a step closer to receive a wildcard
for 2006 Australian Open as he reached the final of the $US100,000
Asian Championships 2005 at Tashkent Tennis Center, Uzbekistan
earlier today.
The Thai top seed defeated the 258th ranked third seed Japan's
Satoshi Iwabuchi in staright set 6-3, 7-6(3) in men's single
semifinals. Danai sets up the final clash against second seed
Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan who recorded 6-4, 6-2 victory
over fifth seed Gouichi Motomura of Japan.
" Istomin played so well (against Motomura).
He hit the ball hard and play well especially in his hometown.
Last time I beated him in two tie-break sets. I will try my
best to win the title. " said Danai
The Asian Championships men's and women's singles winners
will get wildcards for 2006 Australian Open plus $US7,200
