| Noppawan, Kittipong out of Junior French Open |
ROLAND GARROS Paris France, June 05, 2007
The Thai challenge in the Junior French Open ended with both Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(ITF-56) and Kittipong Wachiramanowong(ITF-44) crashing out in the girls' and boys' singles second round at the Roland Garros stadium, in Paris earlier today.
Noppawan, 15-year-old world junior No.56 from Chiangmai, squandered a 4-1 lead in the second set before falling 6-1, 6-4 to world junior No.37 from Perth Jessica Moore.
In the boy's side, Thai junior No.1 Kittipong Wachiramanowong(ITF-44), who is making his first Grand Slam debut, fought hard against world junior No.1 and top seed Matteo Trevisan of Italy before losing 6-3, 7-5 in a one hour and 14 minutes second-round match.
Travelling Coach, Robert Davis, reports from Roland Garros:
It would not be Kittipong day to triumph. Kittipong who became the first Thai junior to win a first round match at Roland Garros since Paradorn Srichaphan, played well, and most points went the distance, but it was the clay court experience of Trevisan that proved to be the difference. The match consisted of many long points. But in the end it was the Italian, who recently won a major clay court event in Milano, who prevailed. Kittipong, who has seen his ITF ranking improve greatly under the direction of LTAT Technical Director, Sombat Uemmongkol, did himself proud by battling for each game, and even earning praise from his opponent.
“He (Kittipong) played well, but I think I am better on clay than him. However, I would not want to play him on grass or hard courts. He has a big game.” says Trevisan after the match.
In the three times that they have played, Thailand's top junior, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn has never beaten Jessica Moore of Australia. Today would prove to be no different.
Noppawan got off to a poor start and it was not until 0-5 in the first did she finally get on the scoreboard. Noppawan shrugged off her first set nerves, and quickly raced to a 4-1 lead by breaking the big serving, hard hitting Aussie in the second game of the second set However, it was confidence that was lacking in the top Thai junior as she lost the next five games and the match.
“Today, she had a better serve and return than me,” admits Noppawan. “But I was much better than her once the point started. The problem was that she was able to keep the point from starting. Today, she played better than I did. I will get better and I want to play her again.” .......... More

MONTEMOR-O-NOVO Portugal, June 15, 2007
Thailand seventh-seeded Noppawan Lertcheewakarn(WTA-618) had to come from a set down before advancing to the quarter-finals with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 three-setter victory over Russian Diana Arutyunova(WTA-801) in a seven hours rain-delayed second round match at the US$10,000 Montemor Ladies Open in Portugal on Thursday.
The 15-year-old talented girl from Chiangmai, one of the rising stars of Thai tennis, went down 5-7 in the opening set but recovered to take the next two 6-2, 6-1 to win the match.
"I have been working very hard on my fitness and my serve. I could see that she was very tired during the second set, and I was feeling very good. And my first serve got better as the match went on, and I served better in the third set than in the first two." said Noppawan who will next play the quarterfinal against Indian second seeded Tara Iyer(WTA-449).
The other Thai Varanya Vijuksanaboon(WTA-838) failed to pull off the victory against the Italian fourth-seeded Elisa Balsamo(WTA-524) as she was defeated in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
"She (Balsamo) changed the direction of the ball better than me today, My defense is very good, but I must talk with my coach and improve my offense tactics." added Varanya who is now training at Pyramid Tennis Academy with Khun Suang Chantra-urai.
Travelling Coach, Robert Davis, reports from Portugal:
After a seven hour rain delay, Noppawan and Varanya finally got on the court.
Varanya, who trains at Pyramid Tennis Academy with Suang had a tough task against the hard hitting Italian and last week's champion. Varanya did herself proud by battling tough during the rallies but it was the Italian who was able to finish off the points with her powerful forehand.
Noppawan wins 5-7,6-2, 6-1.
Noppawan quickly found herself in a very tough baseline battle against Russian who trains in Spain. The first set saw both players challenge each other from the baseline with sharp angles. Noppawan began attacking the net with success. However, it was the Russian who took the first set by the score of 7-5. In the second set, Noppawan struck first with an all-court attacking game that saw her approach the net 14 times. Noppawan won the second set, 6-2. The third set was full of drama as both players traded breaks and battled for a quarterfinal spot. The Russian did not give up easy, but in the end it was Noppawan who wanted it more as she attacked the Russian at every opportunity........... More
